Kinghorne Foxglove Kit

Kinghorne Foxglove Kit

by Kate Barlow

Inspired by a foxglove motif found on the historic Kinghorne Bed in the King’s Dressing Room at Glamis Castle, this elegant design reimagines the original detail in luminous silk and sparkling gold couching.

The kit combines silk shading with goldwork techniques to create a piece rich in texture and dimension. Stitches include Fly Stitch, Satin Stitch, Long & Short shading, Gold Couching, and the application of spangles — offering a rewarding exploration of silk and metal thread embroidery.

A beautifully balanced project by renowned designer Kate Barlow, this design is ideal for stitchers wishing to develop their confidence in combining silk and goldwork techniques while creating a striking historic-inspired piece.

About the Design

Glamis Foxglove

The Kinghorne Foxglove design by renowned designer Kate Barlow, recreates a corner section of the upper pelmet from the bed hangings that adorn the Kinghorne Bed - a 17th-century four-poster bed in the King’s Dressing Room at Glamis Castle.

The hangings, alive with flowers, animals, heraldic symbols, and shimmering threads, form one of the most captivating displays of craftsmanship within the castle.
