I am not naturally drawn to gold work. In fact anything shiny or twinkly I tend to avoid. I would be happy to be proven wrong, especially as this week I gave in and added some beading to my work and am secretly quite pleased with it.
Thank you.

I love the look of goldwork, but I’m still in need of a lot of practice to feel entirely comfortable working on projects. I like to do projects that involve some aspect of goldwork.

I was in awe of the exquisite yet daunting task of goldwork. Throughout my travels in Europe I would gaze at the intricate placement of gold and sequins surrounding such lovely laid, delicate silk and wonder how such wonderful designs were created. Then Meredith Willett showed me how manageable, enjoyable, and satisfying a gold work canvas could bring to my life. After completing her “Tudor Rose” I have a new appreciation for the varieties of goldwork pieces and the unique designs that encompass this exquisite form of needlework. Through the combinations of silks, crystals, metal paillettes, gold and a little patience I have created a timeless piece of art that I proudly display in the entrance to my home for all to see. I now have been using gold perle to sign my monogram on my other Needlepoint pieces since conquering my silly fear of a glittering form of art. After all, one can never have enough sparkle in your life!

I have just embarked on my quest to learn goldwork I have purchased several books on the subject. I have also searched in U-tube videos demonstrating how to apply it. I also have signed up for Thistle Threads Master Goldwork class and am enjoying this course immensely.

4 years ago my sister and I went to Hampton court and took a day long goldwork class. We brought home our unfinished projects and were immediately intimidated about finishing them. This summer, I took an on-line techniques class given by Yulia Artemeva. The class was a huge confidence builder, I then did her project “The Domes”. Obviously I’m still a novice but I’m also ready to jump in!

I love this book. I have no experience with goldwork, but would like to try it sometime in the near future!
