Welcome from Phillipa
Crewel work is a beautiful, traditional and ancient form of embroidery using wool to create a slightly raised feature on a linen twill fabric background.
Crewel enjoyed its hey-day here in England in the late-17th and early-18th century and was at the height of its popularity during the reign of James II, which has led to it often being referred to as ‘Jacobean’ embroidery. Crewel later enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the late-19th century Arts & Crafts era.
I am thrilled to welcome you to our site and hope you find a little bit of stitching heaven as you browse our range of Crewel Work kits, printed linens, Elizabethan Embroidery kits, needlework frames, and gifts.
