Investing in Our Embroidery Heritage
Investing in Our Embroidery Heritage
When important embroidered objects such as this 1615 Book of Psalms come onto the market, we are proud to invest in acquiring them for our own collection. In doing so, we can help to keep significant examples of British needlework in Britain and prevent remarkable pieces from disappearing into private collections where they may rarely, if ever, be seen or studied.
Our collection is different. We acquire historic embroideries so that they can be studied, documented, recreated and shared. We work with leading embroidery experts to understand their materials and techniques, use them to inspire new generations of stitchers, and look for opportunities for the originals themselves to be exhibited and enjoyed more widely.
Every purchase helps us to continue acquiring, caring for and researching historic embroidery — ensuring that these extraordinary pieces remain not only preserved, but part of a living needlework tradition.
