Celebrating

Glamis Castle

Each year, we invite stitchers from around the world to immerse themselves in a single, renowned needlework collection. Through exclusive workshops, lectures, and specially produced films - created only for this event - we explore historic embroideries in depth, always with the aim of honouring and preserving the work of the original makers.

This year, we are thrilled to turn our attention to Glamis Castle (pronounced “Glahmz” !) - one of Scotland’s most impressive royal residences. Glamis has been the ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372 and was the beloved childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother .

Over the course of two weeks, we will explore family textiles stitched by the women of the Strathmore family between the 17th and 20th centuries . Our event programme has been inspired by and curated in service of these textiles - so that, together, we can learn from their artistry, understand their stories, and carry their legacy forward with every stitch.
