    Nikki's design

"Beatrix Potter's conservation work in the Lake District during the later part of her life, specifically reintroducing the indigenous Herdwick sheep, have influenced Nicola's contemporary crewel work project.  This rustic and highly textured wool design will feature a Herdwick surrounded by the magnificent landscape, referencing Beatrix's prize-winning ewes Hilltop Queenie and Waterlily.

Students will be guided through a range of traditional crewel stitches used in a modern yet classic interpretation, including Long and Short Shading, Satin Stitch, Couching, French Knots, Bullion Knots and Velvet Stitch.  This evocative and sculptural image will be worked in a range of wools, featuring Appletons, Fine d'Aubusson and actual Herdwick roving wool on a linen twill ground fabric, with the aim of recreating a momento of Beatrix Potter's Lakes."

More information to follow on the designs being developed for this retreat.

    Student testimonials

"A big thank is due to you for one of the most stimulating and interesting week that I have had for some time. The mixture of nationalities was great and created interesting conversations, other than embroidery! I certainly hope that I am still on this earth next spring and look forward to another very happy week. The hotel staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Jenny and Nicola were superb and it was a joy to be taught by them." - Jean, 2018 participant

"Thank you for this extraordinary retreat which surpasses all my expectations. This is really a dream come true: perfect organisation, wonderful location, talented tutors, excellent food, superb service. In other words a perfect world: just us and embroidery. Nothing else to worry about." - Genevieve, Belguim 2017 & 2018 participant
