About This Design

The Moragas Pocket is inspired by an embroidered pocket from an 18th-century gentleman’s formal coat, now preserved in the Terrassa Textile Museum as part of the prestigious Moragas Pomar Collection.

The original casaca is richly decorated with coloured silks, spangles, stones and intricate embellishments. From this lavish garment, Natalie Dupuis selected a beautiful pocket motif to create a project exclusively for our Barcelona Retreat.

The design transforms this historic detail into a contemporary stitched treasure, intended to become a small purse or pouch, bringing a piece of 18th-century textile history into a beautiful and practical object for today.

The original coat is part of the collection assembled by Josep Moragas Pomar (1873–1945), a passionate collector of historic dress, textiles and accessories.

Moragas grew up surrounded by art and developed a lifelong fascination with historic fabrics and clothing. His collection eventually became internationally recognised, and in 1962 the clothing and embroidery collection was acquired by the city of Terrassa.

Today, the coat is preserved at the Terrassa Textile Museum, where its exquisite details continue to inspire new generations of makers.
