Natalie Dupuis
Intermediate

In this charming design, Natalie has recreated a treasured family heirloom originally stitched by Rachel Kay Shuttleworth as a gift for her sister Nina on the event of Nina's wedding in 1910. The curving motif depicts a beautiful Honeysuckle branch in an arched shape. Completed in twisted DeVere silks on a pure silk fabric, this delicate design can be finished as a framed piece, set into a box lid, or completed as a book cover.

Gawthorpe Honeysuckle Book Cover

This charming embroidered book cover recreates a treasured family heirloom that represents a sisterly bond that lasted a lifetime. Stitched by Rachel and gifted to her elder sister Nina on the vent of her wedding in 1910, the embroidery shows off the glorious colours of the honeysuckle flower, also known as woodbine, a family name that will have held significance for the sisters.

Featuring honeysuckle in pink and cream hues set in a curing branch of delicate green leaves, Natalie’s recreation brings Nina’s design to life and showcases the versatility of twisted silk threads in a variety of beautiful pink and green hues.

Nina had just written an autobiography of their maternal Grandfather Sir Woodbine Parish so, although it is not proven, it is possible that Rachel’s gift was intended as a cover for Nina's copy of that book. Honeysuckle was often used on personal items by both the Parish family and Rachel and her sisters to denote the connection to the Woodbine name. In this class, Natalie will teach you how to achieve a softly shaded effect and how to manipulate your threads to fill each shape as the petals and leaves twist and turn their way through the design.

Accessing Zoom

This class will take place online. You will be sent the Zoom link in good time for the session by email. The link will also be accessible through our community platform.

In order to make the most of your experience, we recommend to:

- Use a desktop computer of laptop to connect to the Zoom session (we don’t recommend joining with a smart phone as you will struggle to see the stitch demonstrations on the small screen. Zoom controls can also be challenging to manage on a tablet so we recommend a larger device if you have one)
