About the Design

Glamis Foxglove

Step into the rich history of Glamis Castle with the Glamis Foxglove class, a two-day online workshop led by expert embroiderer Kate Barlow. This beautiful project is inspired by the exquisite foxglove design featured on the 17th-century Kinghorne Bed, the centerpiece of the castle’s King’s Dressing Room—a space with direct royal connections, as Glamis was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and the bed once belonged to Charles II.

During this immersive class, you will learn the art of gold couching and silk embroidery, mastering techniques that echo the opulence and craftsmanship of the period. Kate will share insights into the history of the Kinghorne Bed, the symbolism of the foxglove motif, and the significance of these treasures within the castle’s storied walls.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created a stunning embroidery that celebrates both royal heritage and timeless artistry.

Accessing Zoom

This class will take place online. You will be sent the Zoom link in good time for the session by email. The link will also be accessible through our community platform.

In order to make the most of your experience, we recommend to:

- Use a desktop computer of laptop to connect to the Zoom session (we don’t recommend joining with a smart phone as you will struggle to see the stitch demonstrations on the small screen. Zoom controls can also be challenging to manage on a tablet so we recommend a larger device if you have one)
- Have the Zoom software ready downloaded on your device
- Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit with a stable place to rest your device.
