Lecture: Craftwork as Social Work with Victoria Martinez
Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth and the Power of Creative Expression
Born in 1886 into a life of wealth and privilege, Rachel, like most young women of means, she was taught to embroider from a young age, and this avocation became her passion in life. More than that, she came to understand embroidery as a form of creative expression that had the power to improve individuals and society.
Join Victoria as she explores how Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth's took this passion and combined it with her role as a leader in the Girl Guides to become an advocate for social welfare, mental health, unemployment, and young people.
