What has become know to us as The Feller Frame is a rare 17th century Silk Work wall mirror which was once part of the renowned Feller Collection accumulated by Micheál & Elizabeth Feller.
The exquisite embroidery is stitched exclusively in silk and is the ideal subject of study for those who wish to perfect their silk shading. We have spend just over a year preparing the course and are now ready to release limited placed for a 2023 start.
We hope that those who choose to enrol, will truly love the experience; that it will not only transform your stitching, but make 2023 a year of focused creativity, community, and artistry as you create your very own frame.
Accesss to the course will be via Zoom. A link will be sent to you ahead of each class. Each session will be recorded and made available to the group. You will have lifetime access to these recordings.

1. What will I receive?
You will receive all embroidery materials necessary to complete the mirror frame.
You will receive your first materials pack, which will include all materials for the first few sessions, in February 2023. You will then receive subsequent packages as and when needed throughout the 13 month course.
Each student will also receive (with their first package) a pack with all the materials required to prepare and mount the silk onto the slate frame, which you will do together in very first session with Kate.
2. What else will I need?
A 24 inch (61 cm) Slate Frame will be required to take part in the course. We are aware that some of you will already have this size of frame but for those who wish to purchase one, we will be sending a list of suppliers in the UK and America.
1. Will the course include a finishing session?
Yes, a finishing session will be offered at an appropriate time at the end of the course so that all those who wish to can finish their work as a mounted embroidery ready for framing or adding to the velvet covered frame (see next question).
2. Will there be a replica green velvet outer frame available to finish the piece?
Yes, we are working with a carpenter and joiner to reproduce an accurate replica of the outer surround featured on the original piece. These frames will be finished in green pure silk velvet as shown in the original.
Each silk outer frame will be made to order and be available to towards the end of the course. Unfortunately we cannot yet quote the final price for this outer frame. As usual, we will make this as reasonably priced as possible.
3. What kind of ground fabric will we be using?
We will be stitching on to a 100% silk dupion.
4. Will a payment plan be offered for the course?
A deposit of £500 is required to book your place. The balance of £3,300 will then be due by 13 January 2023.
Due to the nature of the course we are unable to offer long term payment plans, but as always we do try to be flexible so please do get in touch with Laura at laura@crewelwork.com if you would like to discuss this.
Anyone in the UK is able to use Klarna, our split payment service which allows you to pay over 3 installments. Select to use this service at check out.
5. What level of experience is required to take part in the course?
This course is not suitable for beginner embroiderers. It is not necessary to have worked with silk floss before but this, of course, is beneficial.
6. How many students will there be in each class?
There will be a maximum of 20 students in each class.
7. Will the Feller design be released as a kit or recorded class?
For the foreseeable future this design will not be released in any other way than described here.

8. Will access to the recordings be limited?
You will have lifetime access to the recordings.
