Glamis Animals Weekend

Glamis Animals Weekend

We are delighted to share news of the upcoming Glamis Animals Collection, inspired by the extraordinary 17th-century bed hangings at Glamis Castle.

Originally stitched by Lady Helen Middleton, wife of the 3rd Earl of Strathmore, and her daughters, the surviving embroideries now hang in the King Malcolm’s Room, offering a remarkable glimpse into the richness and imagination of early crewelwork.

Phillipa has recreated a selection of the original animals, forming a collection of 12 beginner-friendly crewelwork designs, ranging from exotic to more familiar and characterful creatures. These designs offer a gentle introduction to crewelwork, as well as a deeply enjoyable project for more experienced stitchers.

The full collection will be available to purchase from the end of June, with the option to choose either the complete set of 12 animals or a smaller selection of 4 favourites.

A free weekend of stitching

To celebrate the launch of the collection, Phillipa will host a free three-day online stitching weekend at the end of August, teaching stitches and techniques inspired by these designs.

The sessions will take place from 27–29 August 2026, running from 4–7pm (UK time) each day, and are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced stitchers.

There is no limit on attendance however you must purchase at least one of the animals sets to be able to take part. The sessions will be recorded and will remain available for participants to review afterwards.
