Barcelona Frame - Crewel Work Kit

The Barcelona Frame is inspired by a late 19th-century original embroidery design from Casa Sivilla, a Barcelona workshop celebrated for its beautifully crafted embroidery patterns.

The original design, measuring 33.5 × 27 cm, was hand-painted on paper and features delicate floral motifs and butterflies. Casa Sivilla produced a wide range of designs, from small floral motifs to larger compositions intended for framing, with some accompanied by embroidered samples.

Phillipa Turnbull has reimagined this elegant design exclusively for our Barcelona Retreat, selecting her own colours inspired by the fresh, vibrant tones of Barcelona in spring.

Casa Sivilla represents an important part of Barcelona’s artisan embroidery tradition. Alongside the work of Núria Alibés, the workshop reflects the skill and creativity of a female-led tradition whose designs have been preserved for future generations.

By working from the original Casa Sivilla design, this project offers a chance to engage directly with Barcelona’s rich textile heritage while creating a fresh interpretation of your own.
