King Ho Ho Kit
This regal bird is a replica of an original early 18th Century crewel work design on a set of bed hangings in our collection. These bed hangings would have furnished a 4-poster bed, and this King HoHo featured on the pelmet, whilst the other birds decorated the four curtains below. A trailing vine connects the bird and single leaf 'spot motifs', which were increasingly fashionable on bed hangings and clothing at this time. The colours in this replica design are true to the unusually unfaded original hangings. It is rare to find a full set of bed hangings from this time, especially complete with the pelmet.
King Ho Ho Bird features the following traditional crewel work stitches; Long and Short as ‘soft shading’, Satin, Crewel Stem, Roumanian Couching, Reversed Chain, Closed Fly and Buttonhole.
