The Tulip Tree - new kit for Summer 2010
Updated: August 2010 In the light of the recent tragic death of the President of the Embroiderers` Guild, it has been decided to postpone the 100 Tutors project for one year. It will now take place in March 2012. Thankyou to all who have volunteered to be tutors at this event, submissions are still most welcome now for March 2012.100 Tutors1,000 StudentsInvesting in the future of the Embroiderers` Guild Museum CollectionNeedlework tutors are invited to take part in a fundraising event to raise money for the Embroiderers’ Guild Museum Collection. All tutors who wish to support the Embroiderers` Guild are invited to apply to become part of a selected group of 100 tutors who will each run a day workshop during March 2012. All proceeds from each Workshop will go to the Guild. The target is to raise at least £50,000.
All the fees raised from the 100 Workshops will be donated to the Guild’s Museum Collection, enabling the Guild to make the Collection more accessible to members, with exhibitions, folios, via the website and in a picture library. High resolution images will be made available online, bringing the treasures to life and making them accessible for members, and paying non-members, to enjoy worldwide. This will be a source of continuing future revenue for the Guild as new members join who wish to access the Collection online from anywhere in the world.
· Each workshop should consist of 10 students · Each student will pay a tuition fee of £50, all of which will go to the Guild · Workshop bookings will be made in advance, from October 2011 onwards, through www.twistedthread.com All related information, including Proposal Forms for tutors wishing to give a day in support of the Guild, can be found on www.twistedthread.com
100 Tutors Proposal Forms should be returned by email to phillipaturnbull@crewelwork.com or by post to Phillipa Turnbull, Pembroke House, Appleby-in-Westmorland, CA16 6TS, UK

The Embroiderers' Guild Museum Collection contains over 11,000 textile artefacts of national importance, including in particular an extensive collection of British embroidery from the 16th Century to contemporary work. The costumes, furnishings and decorative textiles in this treasured collection have been gathered from around the world, material evidence of many eras and cultures, a unique resource for historical research, and an inspiration for today’s artists and designers.

Hello to all my crewel and needlepointing friends out there! I feel that there are many reasons to be cheerful this year, and that there is much to look forward to. Perhaps this is because we had such a long cold winter, and the human spirit needs the balance of an optimistic outlook! The Tulip Tree crewel design, pictured is my new "Masterclass kit", with 24 pages of easy to follow illustrated instructions. I am so looking forward to teaching this and two other designs in Brisbane at The Koala Convention. I am also lecturing teaching at several venues in the US, including the EGA National in San Francisco. I was asked to submit an article "My Favourite Thing" for our UK EG Contact magazine, which you will find if you are a UK EG member in the Spring 2010 issue. I will put the article plus images of the altar frontal on this page later this year.
Also last but not least, I am running a huge fundraiser for the EG - details above. Please send this on to everyone you know. You are most welcome to to print or photocopy this page. Wishing you well, Phillipa
P.S. We have discontinued several designs to make way for new ones, so if you are planning to order a particular design then please email and we can let you know if we will be discontinuing that design in the near future. We welcome any feedback, so please get in touch if you have any comments or news where any crewel work is on display or in hiding! |
