It marks the 15th anniversary since I started with just three kits, and how
exciting and fulfilling those years have been! Quite apart from now having built
up an extensive range of kits, I have enjoyed lecturing, running workshops, and
writing and designing for books and magazine articles. I have also completed
some very special commissions, including the Bedspread at Glamis Castle for the
late Queen Mother’s 100th birthday and, with The Royal School of Needlework, the
Woolsack for The Royal Hospital Chelsea, home of the famous Chelsea Pensioners,
for Her Majesty the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, a commission which led to an
unforgettable July morning at Buckingham Palace.

The benefits of my continuing research into historic textiles are shared with
you in these designs. I have also learnt over the years a great deal about what
you like to find in my kits, and my thanks go to those of you who have so kindly
sent me some very helpful comments. I have paid special attention to making the
instructions easy to follow and more detailed than in any other kit I have seen,
something especially appreciated by those new to crewel work. I only use the
best materials, presented in a way I like to use them. The kits really are
